TrackAlive

Notice · Basic, Shopify and Advanced plans · effective 26 August 2026

Your checkout tracking was switched off on 26 August.

Shopify stopped running Additional Scripts and thank-you-page script tags. Google Ads tags, Meta pixels and custom conversion scripts that lived there went dark that day, with no notice. Your ads report fewer sales. Shopify reports the same orders. Nothing tells you why.

This is the whole product.

Three counts a day: Shopify’s order count, checkout events seen by our own pixel, and purchases your GA4 property recorded. The day they split, you get an email naming the layer that died and the fix.

Example week for a store whose Google tag lived in Additional Scripts. Coverage is GA4 purchases as a share of orders.

The email, sent that night

BROKEN · Wed 26 Aug · yourstore.myshopify.com

Checkout events fired for 44 of 44 orders, but GA4 recorded 17 purchases. Customer Events are healthy; your Google tag is not firing at checkout. It most likely lived in Additional Scripts, which Shopify no longer runs.

Fix: move the tag to a Custom Pixel under Settings → Customer events, or install the Google & YouTube channel and turn on conversion tracking. We’ll email again when the numbers line up.

Which layer broke, and what to do

The ratio between the three counts tells you where the break is. The alert says which one, so you don’t debug all three.

  1. Checkout events stop while orders continue

Customer Events aren’t running at checkout. A consent banner is withholding analytics permission, or a pixel is throwing an error. Every tag on the store is dark, not just yours.

Fix: open Settings → Customer events, check each pixel’s status, and confirm your consent app grants analytics.

  2. Checkout events keep pace, GA4 drops

Shopify is firing events; your Google tag isn’t. It lived in Additional Scripts or a theme script that checkout no longer runs. This is the 26 August break.

Fix: move the tag into a Custom Pixel, or install the Google & YouTube channel and enable conversion tracking.

  3. GA4 counts most sales, not all

Coverage is below your threshold but above half. Usually consent mode declining a region, a late-loading tag, or a duplicate property.

What we do: warn once, remind every three days until it clears, and tell you the moment it recovers.

What we read, and what we never touch

Read, once a day

  • Your order count for the day, as one number
  • A checkout token per completed checkout, kept only so each one is counted once
  • The purchase count for the one GA4 property you pick, read-only

Never read or stored

  • Order contents, prices, products
  • Customer names, emails, addresses
  • Your theme, your other apps, your ad accounts

Google Analytics access

TrackAlive requests read-only access to Google Analytics 4 for the single property you select. We use it only to read a daily count of purchase events for that property, only for this comparison. Disconnect any time from Settings; we revoke the token and delete it. Full Limited Use statement in the privacy policy.
